E-Commerce Minister Stephen Timms launches E-Commerce Awards with an increased prize fund of £182,000 and introduction of four new categories.
Speaking at the launch of the E-Commerce Awards 2003 on 13 March, E-Commerce Minister Stephen Timms, commented, "In this year's E-Commerce Awards our aim is to recognise excellence in e-business. An objective we share with InterForum. The government is committed to creating the right environment for success and enabling innovation and enterprise to flourish within all businesses. And I am pleased to say that there are sure signs that show we are moving in the right direction. A comprehensive study of "The World's Most Effective Policies for the e-Economy", commissioned by the Office of the e-Envoy and DTI, found that, last year, the UK had the second best environment for e-business in the world - behind only the USA."
He continued, "This is a great achievement that firmly places the UK as a world-leading knowledge economy. But we know there is more to do."
The Minister concluded, "The E-Commerce Awards are a marvellous opportunity for organisations to share and show innovative approaches for integrating sophisticated use of ICTs into their business. Business and government can, by example, build a wider confidence in using more integrated and sophisticated approaches to these technologies."
The E-Commerce Awards are a joint initiative between UK online for business and InterForum, sponsored nationally for the third year by Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) and Cisco Systems. They are open to any UK organisation with up to 250 employees and aim to recognise and reward innovation in the application of internet and information and communication technologies. The overall national winner will receive a total prize of £40,000. Applications for entry will be through an online form at the web site www.ecommerce-awards.co.uk
